Join us at the Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition 2024 Spring Town Hall meeting for an enlightening session with keynote speaker Sean Norman, a seasoned veteran in wildfire management and response. With a distinguished career that began in 1986, Sean has dedicated his life to firefighting and emergency services, starting as a fire explorer in the Sonoma Valley and advancing through various roles within CAL FIRE. His extensive experience includes working as a firefighter, paramedic, truck captain, and ultimately retiring as an Assistant Chief in 2023.

Sean’s deep involvement in critical incidents, such as the Oroville Dam Spillway Emergency, the Bear Fire, the Camp Fire, and the Dixie Fire, has equipped him with invaluable insights into wildfire management and emergency response strategies. His presentation, titled “Paradise – Lessons Learned,” will draw from his firsthand experiences as a division supervisor during the devastating 2018 Camp Fire in Butte County. Sean was at the forefront, managing the initial response and leading the subsequent search and recovery efforts in the aftermath.

This session will delve into the pre-existing evacuation strategies, the challenges faced during the fire, and the lessons learned in land use planning, building construction, and fuel reduction within the wildland-urban interface. Sean’s talk will also explore common factors contributing to large and damaging fires across the Western United States, offering crucial takeaways for fire prevention and management.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from Sean Norman’s wealth of experience and his pivotal role in managing some of the most significant wildfire incidents in California’s history.
