Programs & Plans

Woody Biomass

The Woody Biomass Committee is working to identify, create, and communicate existing biomass utilization opportunities to private landowners.

Private Lands

The objective of the Private Lands Committee is to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire at the watershed scale in the Chumstick by implementing fuels reduction projects on private lands adjacent to USFS lands and beyond.  Download our Private Lands Cost-Share Application and Supplemental Questionnaire and take the first step toward fuels reduction on your land!  This program will share the cost of fuels reduction with the landowner, allowing a greater number of acres to be treated.

Applications will be ranked by a group of non-resident CWSC partners using an index developed by the Private Lands Committee.  Please encourage your neighbors to apply for the Private Lands Cost-Share Program; the more neighbors who apply the higher the likelihood of treatment in your area.

Monitoring

Coring in Eagle Creek.jpgThis committee will be monitoring the implementation of the Chumstick Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project.  This project, proposed by the Wenatchee River Ranger District, includes development of monitoring protocols, coordination of volunteer baseline inventories and implementation monitoring of the road system and stands of trees in the USFS project.  This work is necessary to better inform the project before a decision is made, to inform further collaboration on the issues of big tree management and roads, and to hold the agency accountable for actions on the ground to reduce fuels near homes and key habitat in the Chumstick watershed.  Monitoring work is being funded in part by a grant from the Mountaineers Foundation.

Self-Guided Tour

The Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition is working to develop a self-guided tour of existing demonstration sites in order to breakdown misconceptions about fuels reduction projects, provide examples of various fuel reduction practices, and support informed decisions about projects on private land.

Field Day

The annual field day provides private landowners and others with the opportunity to observe fuel reduction practices on-site.  The field day is designed to increase the understanding of, and sense of ability to perform, the steps involved in carrying out fuel reduction on your own land.  Options for treatment and funding are provided.
